The bells at midwinter
‘…no ear may hear his coming…’
Can a song be haunted? On the longest night of the year, amidst the peal of bells and the echo of carols… something is getting closer.
The Bells at Midwinter is a Christmas ghost story, presented as an immersive choral experience by the choir and creative team of last year’s ground-breaking Voices of the Polar Night. When The Sunday Boys unveiled Voices of the Polar Night in 2024, audiences were left spellbound, whispering afterwards of an experience unlike anything they had known:
“It was so good I went twice.”
“A spectacular experience"
“I cried… and I don’t cry.”
“Simply amazing, we loved every minute.”
“An amazing concept, brilliantly executed."
Now, the same creative team returns with a new story, one that shivers through time and song alike. A blindfolded audience is surrounded by singers, enveloped in sound, and drawn into an unsettling tale, perfect for a winter’s night.
Performances of The Bells at Midwinter will unfold over two magical winter weekends, 13–14 and 20–21 December, in a series of evocative settings including The Whitaker Museum & Art Gallery in Rossendale, the North of England Centre for Music & Arts, and The Stoller Hall’s Carole Nash Hall. Each venue offers its own unique atmosphere, part concert, part ghost story, part shared dream, drawing audiences deep into the mystery.
